Doubletree Hilton Johor Bahru

I decided to delay my posts about Australia for a week and post about a recent stay at a Doubletree Hilton. Nope, its not about the Doubletree at Kuala Lumpur, the DTKL is under the pipeline however this post is about DT Johor Bahru.

Doubletree Johor Bahru opened its doors on 3rd July 2014. Previously, I used to shun JB due to its notorious jams,  safety concerns and the absence of decent hotels. I was particularly interested to stay at DTJB after looking at the website.

DTJB is just a 10minutes walk from Johor Bahru's City Square Mall which is adjoined to the CIQ immigration complex. It is extremely convenient and once you leave the entrance of City Square Mall (away from CIQ), you will be able to see the hotel tower from the main road.

The below are shots of the hotel entrance

I was particularly impressed with the glamour of the hotel lobby. If this is the standard which Doubletree is offering, then other 4 star chain hotels (Holiday Inn, Novotel, Mecures) need to be very very concerned indeed. The lobby is stylish, glamorous yet not overwhelming. The warm tones and flower decors brought colours to my day!

Check in was swift and efficient. I was greeted as an Hilton Honors Gold member and was promptly informed of the details of my stay. I redeemed a full award stay and after a kind email exchange with the GM, I agreed to pay RM50++ to upgrade to a Deluxe Room. As Im HHonors Gold, I will be given a 1 category upgrade to Executive Room. However as I was celebrating a special occasion, The GM kindly extended a further upgrade to a very spacious suite. Thanks indeed!

The room which was accorded to me was on the Hilton Honors Floor and had view of Jalan Tun Abdul Razak

The spacious suite came with an ensuite bathroom and bathtub. It also came with 50ml big bottles crabtree and evelyn bath amenities. ,It was very welcoming indeeed as I was a little annoyed with the little 25ml bottles during my previous stay at DTKL

We were accorded Executive Lounge benefits which includes a cocktail hour with evening canapés from 1730 to 1930hrs. The executive lounge is located at the highest floor offering decent views of inner Johor (away from Singapore). The design of the executive lounge is relaxing, I felt at ease reading a book during the day.

My favourite spot, love the interior design!

The evening canapés offered an extensive spread of hot cooked food to small bites, sweet treats and savoury snacks.

My favourite Veggie Sticks!

I was a little disturbed when a table of guests took 2 glasses of the veggie sticks to their table. They also used their own spoons to scoop the sauces. However the executive lounge staff was attentive and replaced the 2 glasses and placed new sauces with serving spoons within 20minutes.

I was quite impressed with the meeting room which is very tastefully designed

During the evening, I ordered room service of seafood cantonese noodles (koay teow is horfun), 1/2 dozen chicken satays and fried kuey tiao. The food was served within 45minutes and were of good quality.

The Hotel offers 4 F&B options, the Axis Lounge (in the lobby shots), the Makan Kitchen (below) which caters for your daily breakfast needs, the Food Store (did not try it) and Tosca at level 13 (will try it the next round).  The Makan kitchen is spacious and stations are well manned with english speaking staff. I was delighted to find the fresh juice station where staff prepare your juices as you order them. This is literally Peel Fresh =P.

After breakfast, I checked out the Hotel's Pool located on the 13th Floor. The pool is large and has 2 seperate areas, the usual lap area and another "fun" area with small slides and jacuzzi.

I returned to the lobby to take some shots of the flowers which were exhibited there

Doubletree Hilton JB gave me a new reason to explore Johor Bahru. I believe this will be the first of the many stays at DTJB and will be looking to spend some weekend stay-cations over at JB provided the causeway jam will ease a little.
