PARKROYAL On Beach Road

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

I had a recent stay at PARKROYAL on Beach Road as part of an existing GHA (Global Hotel Alliance) promotion in order to reach their black elite status.

I made a booking for a King Premier room for $189++ under the GHA website. It was a very reasonable price considering that the booking was made 3 days before the stay and during the school holiday period.

There were confusion during check-in. As a GHA Platinum, I was offered a 1 category upgrade to the Orchid Club King room but was not granted club lounge access. I argued that this was not the usual GHA practice and after consulting their manager, atlas, I was granted lounge access and the counter staff apologised for the confusion.

The hotel lobby is not luxurious but looks good for a 4 star hotel.

The Orchid Club King room given to me was located on the 6th floor and as preferred, away from the elevators. The Orchid Club lounge is also located on the same floor.

I was attracted to the unusual curved corridors as I was walking towards my room.

The first thing that struck me whilst entering the room was the thickness & height of their signature simmons bed.

The bathroom was small. It has a small bathtub and attached shower. The tub made me feel like an overgrown man in a kids pool.

The bathroom amenities were from the in-house St Gregory Spa which are of reasonable quality.

We were given a $30 discount voucher for the Si Chuan Dou Hua restaurant. Plans were made for a late lunch at the restaurant but had to be called off as the restaurant was booked the whole day for a few wedding banquet.

We took a walk across the street to Jalan Sultan and had dinner at one of the chic korean restaurant. Prices were slightly on the high side. The meal for 12 drumlets, 2 drinks, 1 bibimbap and a korean pancake came to approx $50.

We returned to the Club Lounge for their evening cocktail selection. The spread was very good and surprisingly was one of the better ones I had in recent times.

Evening Canapés @ Orchid Club Lounge

As a seafood lover, I was delighted to see boiled prawns placed delicately on a bed of ice.

Evening Canapés & Red Wine.

There were also some good sushi spread as such Salmon Nigiri, Tako Nigiri and my all-time favourite California Maki.

What is Christmas without Turkey right? I ended off the evening bites with a slice of (surprisingly) tender turkey breast, sandwiches and cheese.

We were well taken care of by Ms Mervlyn and her team during our time at the lounge. Our drinks were always filled and we were made to feel very welcomed at the lounge.

The next morning, I woke up at 6am to take a 10mins stroll through the back door to the Kallang River for the sunrise.

The Nicoll Highway MRT Station is just a 5mins walk away from the Hotel. It is located at the back and is in the midpoint between the Kallang River Basin and PARKROYAL on Beach Road.

I went to the swimming pool at the advise of the staff whom mentioned that the sunrise view was awesome.

I walked to the main restaurant for breakfast as a famished man who have not eaten in 158 minutes.

The buffet spread was extensive and had almost everything for different palates.

Main Restaurant Breakfast

I had the porridge and 2 sunny side up from the omelette station. Service staff were attentive and were eager to help whenever needed.

We proceeded to the club lounge for drinks/coffee with views of Bugis/Lavender area. I was quite pleased with the food spread for breakfast and also the availability of fresh berries and fruits.

As such, instead of having a post-breakfast drink, I dig in to indulge in a 1 last breakfast serving.

As I have a wedding to attend at 1300hrs. I checked out and left at 1100hrs after breakfast. PARKROYAL on Beach Road offered me reasonably priced accomodation with good lounge service with extensive food spread. I look forward to another stay with PARKROYAL Hotel Group.
