Shanghai - Morning at Nanjing Road & The Bund
Nanjing Road is the main shopping street of Shanghai and is also located just at the doorstep of Le Royal Meridien Shanghai.
I skipped breakfast one early morning and took a stroll down from the Nanjing Road towards the Shanghai Bund. It was a cloudy and misty morning, temperature was 24 degree Celsius, conducive for walks.
One thing about Nanjing road is the preservation of the local heritage and culture amidst globalisation, you get to see many global fashion brands but there all housed in these beautiful heritage houses which has been beautifully preserved since the 19th century.
After a 10 minutes stroll, along Nanjing road, I have reached the iconic shanghai bund. The bund itself is iconic and a testament to Shanghai's unique history, a waterfront of colonial buildings with towering and modern skyscrapers across the river. A beauty and living evidence of how much Shanghai and China herself has progressed throughout the past century.
I love the tranquillity of the bund, standing there whilst admiring the scenery whilst the cargo boats sail upstream/downstream, seems a little therapeutic as I sip my cup of cappuccino at the same time.
Located at the bund was also a commemorative monument, the Monument to the People's Heroes 上海市人民英雄纪念塔, which is built in the year of 1993 by the government to remember those who have lost their lives during the turbulent revolutionary times and also in recent times, whilst on peacekeeping mission or natural disasters.
I could stay here all day, the beautiful colonial buildings are just mesmerising, I could not wait to return at night when the buildings are all lighted up!
