Hilton Kuala Lumpur (Executive King Room)
The last leg of my Kuala Lumpur trip, I decided to book 2 nights at the Hilton Kuala Lumpur, located at KL Sentral. This 5 star property, home to 503 rooms and suites underwent extensive refurbishment in 2013 with the launch of several new concept dining outlets, one of which I frequent for trice in a row, the award winning chinese restaurant Chynna.
Conveniently located at KL Sentral, the KL Sentral railway station is just a street away, connected to the new Nu Sentral mall & just a train station away to the Mid Valley Megamall.
Check-In was swift and efficient, I was personally attended to by the Front Office Manager and was upgraded to the Executive King Room with views of KL Sentral and access to the Executive Lounge featuring continental breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails & canapés.
The beautiful 44sqm Executive King Room features a floor-to-ceiling windows for an awesome panoramic view, modern plasma TV, open concept bathroom, comfortable sofa, stylish work station with plenty of power plugs and an ergonomic work chair.
The bathroom comes with a separate rainfall shower and deep soaking tub with branded amenities from PeterThomasRoth.
What I love about this room is the efficient used of space making the room look and feel extremely spacious. Being on the Executive Floors also grants me access to the Executive Lounge, which unfortunately was undergoing renovation during my stay, thus half of the lobby lounge is set aside to function as a temporary executive lounge.
What is a stay in a Executive Floor without taking a visit to the Executive Lounge for some evening cocktails?
The makeshift Executive Lounge at the lobby was decent. Featuring partial views of the lake gardens and the highway towards KL Sentral.
I was pleased with the spread of the evening drinks, with choices within its own categories of red and white wines with champagne and other usual free flow soft drinks, hard liquor, coffee and tea throughout the day.
There will be many who say, why spend for hotel food when in Kuala Lumpur? Well, there are people who enjoy street food, I too enjoy my sanctuary within the hotel confines, blogging and reading a book whilst enjoying a glass of champagne with some quality canapés.
The property is also famous for its one of a kind landscaped pool which is combined with the adjoining property, Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur to form a huge pool area. There were mini waterfalls, stone formations, plenty of sunbeds, a bar by the pool and also a Japanese Restaurant Iketeru at the pool level.
Halfway through my walk, I could hear multiple thundering roar in the skies and small droplets of water start to fall from the sky. I took a few shots before leaving for me room, slightly disappointed.
I returned to the room and ordered room service. At the same time, I heard the continuous lightning strikes around the city. I set-up my tripod and camera, dimmed the lights and started snapping!
After an hour or so, the skies cleared to present a clear full moon.
After a hearty meal, its time to hit the bed & prepare for sunrise the next morning
A blue cloudy sunrise is pretty spectacular on its own too. It has also been a new habit for me to prepare timelapse videos of sunrise and sunsets. See the entire journey of the sun rising from east with my timelapse video on the right.
In overall, my stay has been good, however with the shifting of the executive lounge temporarily to the lobby lounge, I realise that the service is not as prompt and as welcoming as my other Hilton stays. The hotel is great, the Chinese restaurant fantastic, as a Hilton Diamond, I was hoping for a suite upgrade but would be a real tough call at this property as they only have limited suites in the property. Would I return? Definitely, so much so that I have booked a return stay at this property to return pretty soon!
