Tosca Italian Trattoria @ DT By Hilton Johor Bahru

During the end of 2015, I visited the Tosca italian Trattoria at DoubleTree By Hilton Johor Bahru for a taste of their Italian food.  I felt that the 3 course meal I had previously was pretty good and hence decided to return to Tosca this time round and request the chef to prepare some specials for me to taste. 

We decided on a Chef Special, 5 course meal for RM150nett. As previously mentioned, it is always great to be offered a warm bread platter as you are seated. Shortly after I had the bread platter, I was served my first course, a simple poached english pear salad with Dojin mustard sauce and crunchy walnuts. 

Sweet poached pears goes well with the slightly spicy mustard sauce. The pairing of the walnuts and vegetables provide a much welcomed crunch and lightness to the dish itself. This starter definitely opened my palate.

The next 2 courses that followed was a Seafood Chappino soup and Baked Cod Fish with Marinara sauce.

The seafood Chappino soup was prepared with a rich flavourful seafood stock. It had a slight tinge of a subtle truffle taste. The seafood was filled with generous servings of prawns and black mussels.

The baked cod fish had a crispy crust and was cooked to perfection. The flesh is firm and fresh topped on a bed of light marinara sauce with baby tomatoes and black olives. I loved the milky texture of the meat, a testament of how beautifully this dish was executed.

The main star of the evening, slow braised short ribs served with grilled vegetables, mashed potatoes and a rich meat sauce.

This had to be one of the best slow braised dish I had for quite awhile, it is literally a "melt in your mouth" texture with an even marbling of fats and meat. It was so tender that I need not use a knife to cut through the meat, just a fork would do. The mash was not entirely smooth, with chunky bits of potatoes, buttery and delicious indeed.

Ask for this dish if you are here the next time and will not be disappointed!

We ended off the meal with a Meringue, topped with whip cream, raspberry candies on a bed of raspberry and chocolate sauce, with chocolate flakes. I am not of a person who love stuff which are too sweet and found this dessert too sweet for my liking. 

Another pretty awesome meal, the beef made me want to return each and every time, the execution was great, with still slight rooms for improvement but the overall experience was quite splendid.
