The 5 star InterContinental Shanghai Ruijin is home to one of the richest heritage houses in Shanghai. The classical hotel is located at second Ruijin Road and is home to several building within the hotel compound. The hotel main building is adjoined to the historical State Guesthouse of Shanghai, home to several restaurants and the main tower rooms.

Located central within the hotel compound is a low rise colonial styled building, home to the Club InterContinental lounge and Club rooms & suites. Having booked a room on the club floor, i was directed to check in at the Club InterContinental wih the full suite of Club InterContinental benefits such as complimentary breakfast, all day beverages at the lounge, afternoon tea and evening canapés with great beverage selection

The 45sqm Club InterContinental King room I received is on the ground floor offering views of the hotel's gardens. The rooms are designed beautifully with dark red timber, marble and carpet flooring, plush sofas and seating with luxuriously thick bed and beddings. The room brings you back to the 19th century with a touch of modern finishing.

What stood out was the bathroom, it looked as though it was from a scene in the movie in the 19th century. I love the deep soaking tub and the luxurious rainfall shower, the spacious setup. The only downside was that it was freezing in Shanghai during that time and the marble flooring does not help in reminding you of the chills when you step onto it barefooted.

As part of brand standard, the bathroom offers branded Agraria toiletries.

After check-in, it is approx 1430hrs and its time for me to head towards the club lounge for its afternoon tea. The club lounge looks grand and beautiful with a bar counter and a cigar room, luxurious and classy indeed.

One amazing feature of the property is the vast gardens and greenery available for her guests. I took me near 30 minutes to just cover the inner perimeter of the hotel grounds, I cant imagine how long would it take if I were to cover the outside.

The Club InterContinental features its own indoor pool with water heating and also a great jacuzzi.

Shortly, I returned to the Club InterContinental lounge for the evening cocktails and canapes. My My am I blown away, local fish dumpling soup, cured platter with premium ham selection, smoked salmon, individual plated selection of canapes and a seafood ice platter of snow crabs, cold crabs, mussels and scallops. On top of that are your usual spread of cheese platters, salad bar and cakes for desserts.

Not forgetting the alcohol list with a range of red, white wines which I totally enjoyed.

What a luxurious spread indeed!
