This year, I returned to the Holiday Inn Orchard City Centre for a returned stay after staying the Deluxe Suite in my previous stay. This time round, I booked an Executive King Room using my IHG Dining Rewards 25% off Best Flexible Rate voucher for S$187++ per night.

Upon arriving at the property, I proceeded to the club lounge for my private check in by Sabrina and Megan. I was greeted as a IHG Spire Elite member and was also given an upgrade to the Junior Suite! There was an lucky draw for IHG members too which I drew a bonus 1,000 IHG reward club points.

The Junior Suite is located at the corner of the hotel with a long walk down the corridor. Upon entering the Suite, you have a large space and walk-in wardrobe, a cosy seating area for 3 pax with sofa and coffee table. To the other side, you have a beautiful wood study table with ergonomic work chair and the comfy king bed with brand colours. 

My Junior Suite features view of the Istana park and also it also faces the expressway, I was pleasantly surprised at how insulated the room is from the usual sounds of traffic.

The bathroom features a deep soaking tub joined with a standing shower and usual Holiday Inn branded amenities. 

Staying as an Executive Club guest has its perks! 

- All day access to the Executive Club with free flow soft drinks, coffee tea and light snack

- Complimentary breakfast either at the club lounge or the main restaurant

- Complimentary high tea

- Complimentary evening cocktails and select gourmet canapes including salad bar and desserts

and many more which I did not get to use during this stay. 

The food quality and quantity for a Holiday Inn brand is pretty decent, however as compared to my last stay, it felt like the quality and spread has declined by a little. The same could be said for the breakfast spread too.

However, the lounge staff Adora prepared a pretty awesome Singapore Sling that was so good, I ordered another right soon after.

Overall, I was slightly disappointed with the watering down of elite benefits. Previously I was given a drinks voucher for 2 pax for a choice of housepour/beer upon check in but I believe that this practice has been discontinued as I have not received any of these during my 2 separate stays this year.

The lack of change of the club lounge food make it seems pretty boring to me. I first stayed at this property (without reviewing) 2 years ago and I can still see some same choice of canapes during my current stay. I am still impressed that they are able to serve a pretty good Singapore Sling, good training I guess?

Overall, the Holiday Inn Singapore Orchard City Centre has quite reasonable rates as compared to its nearest competitors and is centrally located within 5 minutes walk to the Somerset MRT station. Definitely a great choice for IHG Reward Club members, especially for those who prioritize, location, shopping and also the international standard of Holiday Inn service. Would I return?, Yes, I have yet to try the food at Tandoor which is widely acclaimed by many of my friends for the great Indian cuisine and I would also like to review the renovated Premier Rooms which I have yet to stay so far.
