Recently, I visited this nice local cafe chucked in a corner at Jurong East, walking distance from the sports complex and the Chinese Gardens MRT. TheUsualPlace serves western styled cuisine with a good range of selections for appetisers, mains and pastas.

We arrived early, way early for our dinner at 4+ but they are only opened for dinner service from 530pm onwards but they were kind to serve us some ice cold water whilst we were waiting outside. Hence, friends heading there do take note of their operating hours.

We ordered a couple of appetisers to start, the Crispy Calamari Rings ($6.50), The Usual Wings ($6.50) , the Truffle Fries ($7.0) and the Caesar Salad ($5.50)

I totally loved the Crispy Calamari Rings, they were crispy out the outside and the calamari is crunchy! The thin cut truffle fries were a simple indulgence, great to go with a pint anytime.

The Caesar salad was a little disappointing as the salad was not evenly mixed, we had slices of lettuce which were full of dressing and some others none.

The wings were well seasoned and marinated, quite succulent and juicy, I could eat them all day without the BBQ sauce!

For our main courses, we did not order any mains, instead we tried their pastas.

The pasta had a generous serving. I myself tried the salted egg prawn pasta. The sauce had a good salted egg flavour, it goes well with the pasta but it lacked the Oomph or that punch in the sauce. Just need some refining in the seasoning in my opinion.

The pasta is done al-dente for all 3 pasta dishes which deserves a thumbs up for consistency. My friend felt that the Carbonara was good, the chicken and mushroom was pretty decent too. 

The quality of the pastas were good, but could be better, however considering the price list, I have no complains. Would definitely want to return to try their mains and desserts in the near future!
