Beijing's Best La Mian & Dumplings @ Makan Kitchen

I have stayed at the DoubleTree By Hilton Johor Bahru numerous times and each stay experience has always been an enjoyable and fitting of a DoubleTree.

Lately, I returned to the property to review their latest F&B promotion, Beijing Best La Mian & Dumpling! From now to the 14th May 2017, Tuesdays to Sundays, Chef Chen from Hilton Beijing will be performing live at the Makan Kitchen. Guests will be given to an eye-opening treat of Chef Chen's art of stretching and pulling these evenly long and silky noodles.

On top of the noodles, be also treated to Beijing-style dumplings with a choice of either chicken or beef fillings. These dumplings are served with a choice of condiments but my favourite is chilli oil and vinegar.

The broth is light and beefy, the noodles are springy and have a nice al-dente texture. The braised beef is delicious, it is soft, tender and flavorful, on the first bite there is a distinctive taste of the braise but what continues is the richly beefy taste of the meat.

Chef Chen comes across as a very humble chef and was extremely open to sharing on what goes into a nice bowl of beef noodles. I lamented the fact that this bowl of noodles was not as spicy as the ones I had whilst in China. Chef Chen smiled and made a bowl of real authentic beef noodle soup for me with extra dose of parsley, spring onions and chilli oil.

Boy, that bowl of noodles revigorate my senses and totally reminded me of China.

On top of Chef Chen's signature noodles and dumplings, diners would also taste all the delicacies on show at the Makan Kitchen's buffet spread including seafood on ice, ala-minute stir fried seafood with chilli sauce, Indian corner with fresh naan bread and assorted meat and vegetable curries, nasi lemak, beef and chicken satay, roast duck and chicken, including a daily soup plus many other Asian selection.

Not forgetting, the trays and rows of desserts from freshly made waffles and pancakes to ice cream, durian cake, tiramisu and delights such as red velvet cakes and creme brulee.
