Hilton Hanoi Opera (Executive Suite)
The Hilton Hanoi Opera is located conveniently in District 1 and is just right beside the Hanoi Opera House. The Hilton (not to be confused with the "jail used by American POWs) is one of the earliest 5-star hotels in Hanoi and still retains the rustic charm of its former self.
I arrived at the hotel approx 12 noon, upon entering the lobby, it felt as though I was brought back all the way to the 1980s. The grand lobby with beautiful chandeliers huge marble pillars and the grand staircase leading to the upper floors looks so majestic.
I was promptly greeted by the Front Office staff as a Hilton Diamond member and was given an awesome upgrade to its Hilton Executive Suite.
The 75sqm Hilton Executive suite includes a spacious living room, separate working area and a king-size Hilton bed and mine came with views of the city.
It took me some time getting used to the decor of the room, it looks jaded and very tired, the sofas in the living room seemed to be from another era.
It has been my first visiting a hotel with green carpets and jaded pocket dots sofa. Nevertheless, the hotel has made the effort to modernize their offerings with flat screen LCD TV and luxurious rainfall shower in the bathroom.
I am not exactly pleased with the Suite but it is indeed huge and spacious. The sofa and seats in the bedroom could have been more comfortable.
The suite came with views of the city in District 1 and the small park just adjacent from the street. We spend the rest of our afternoon and evening exploring the attractions of District 1 on foot and had a nice meal with a friend at the Ba Mien restaurant.
Ba Mien features not just traditional Vietnamese cuisine but also serves an international buffet breakfast for hotel guests in the morning.
Waking up in the morning has always been a chore for me, even with the temptation of an international buffet breakfast. Having a hot of fresh shrimp and beef pho with plenty of chillis delivers the right punch to just wake me up.
The breakfast spread was great, with plenty of the usual breakfast staples, however, some of the standouts have to be the freshly squeezed fruit juices, homemade bread and cooked to order noodle station.
It has been a stay with hit and misses, I definitely did not miss the Executive Lounge as it was packed and busy during my stay. The rooms would be going through a series of refurbishment this year and I can't wait to return to review the newly renovated rooms once it's ready!
