Lobby Lounge @ Crowne Plaza Changi Airport
Just a few weeks back, I visited the Crowne Plaza Changi Airport to try out their new afternoon tea set which goes for $48++ for 2. As I was an IHG gourmet collection member, after applying the 25% discount, I only had to pay $42 nett for 2. A great deal indeed.
The afternoon tea set compromise of a reasonable selection of hot/cold coffee, tea and mocktail selections, an array of traditional western and local savory treats followed by a sweety goodness 3 tier dessert stand.
We were first served our drinks, followed by an à la minute crepe filled with berries and cream. Crepes were good, had a nice bite to it, the fillings of brie cheese and berries gave a nice balance to the entire taste.
What was followed were two plates of savory treats, one is a western spread with the other being local favorites.
If the crepe gave a great start to our high tea, then the savory treats unfortunately was from a different place. I just did not enjoy the savory treats as much as I hoped, especially the local favorites.
The quiche was not bad, the croque monsieur was average. The tomato and Prosciutto tart was decent, a tad too salty for my liking. I did not fancy the local favorites, the fillings of the chilli crab bun was pale and it could be more generous. I liked the crystal mushroom dumplings.
The deep fried yam dumpling stuffed with roast chicken was a no no for me. The fillings were non-existent when I was having it.
Fortunately, the sweet treats were much much better.
The macaroons were awesome, I felt that they totally nailed the white chocolate mousse with wild berries coulis. I am not a fan of white chocolate but me and my friend both "oomph-ed" in agreement that this was good.
The cupcakes were ordinary, same for the custard tart.
The fruits were bland and could have really been sweeter if they were riper.
All in all, I felt that there were hit and misses during this high tea, I am a big fan of this hotel, especially when my first hotel review written in 2014 was them. I left the table as not an impressed guest and I do hope they could improve on the product quality of the savory treats. That being said, for $48++ for 2 pax, it is a real treat for a nice afternoon tea.
