Nha Hang Ngon @ Ho Chi Minh City

During the second day of my trip at Ho Chi Minh City, I've made a return visit to Nha Hang Ngon, a local Vietnamese eatery that specializes in local cuisine.

We started our ordering with a round of chilled glass of freshly squeezed pomelo juice. After a city walk under the blistering heat, this is just what we needed before we start our lunch.

With every meal in Vietnam, its customary (At least for myself) to order a serving of Spring rolls as a starter before we dig into our mains.

The rice rolls are filled with a mixture of pork and mushroom and served with the traditional sweet, sour and spicy dip. The deep fried rice paper rolls has additional filling such as black fungus and rice vermicelli. I prefer the rice rolls as compared to the fried rolls, it has a nice Q texture and the filling are flavorful.

What was followed include crispy noodles with chicken, poached chicken with porridge and stir fried water vegetables (kang kong in SG context). The crispy noodles is good, freshly fried, with a nice texture. I love the poached chicken, it is as good as our local boiled chicken which we order from our local chicken rice stall.

Overall, the standard has actually dropped since my last visit, although the dishes were OK, they were not as WOW as the first time I've visited in 2015. Considering that we visited a few more different eateries in Ho Chi Minh City, I would be in 2 minds to return to this restaurant.
