York Hotel Singapore (Superior Room)
Previously, I reviewed Penang's Hawker Fare at York Hotel, a seasonal offering of Penang favourites which is definitely an opportune moment to curb that craving of Penang delicacies in Singapore!
This time round, I've returned to the property to review one of the newly refurbished rooms. York Hotel prides itself as a Hidden Gem in the heart of Orchard Road, Definitely so, as its located within walking distance to the major attractions of Orchard but away from the hustle and bustle too.
I arrived at the hotel approx. 1230 and was glad to find that my room has been prepared and ready. The Superior room has a decent size of 27sqm and mine offers views of the neighbouring Far East Plaza
The room looks simplistic with a woody feel. Mine came with in a Queen bed configuration, twin is available during booking too. The room looks rather spacious for a 27 sqm room, with plenty of storage space such as cabinets, cupboards and drawers which is welcoming for a business traveller.
It's always nice to feel appreciated with a small welcome bowl of tropical fruits.
During my stay, I was blessed with a nice blue sky with passing clouds,, a feast for my camera which we manage to capture a panoramic shot of the view from room, with the American Club, Far East Plaza and Prime Residential estates at the background.
Views aside, I am pleasantly surprised with the wide range of TV channels that is available in the room, with premium movie channels to my favourite KBS World and even sports channel, some of the hotels in the area do not even feature that much channels to my displeasure.
The room also features a private bathroom with a marble vanity area, a bathtub, which would be just nice for most people, but considering my relatively tall build, it was a little small for me. The hotel also offer their own complimentary in-house bath and shower amenities with an old school powerful shower head. As the newer properties tend to go for the overhead rainfall shower, it does seem a little nostalgic to see this shower head.
As the property is located right smack in Orchard Road, I took a short walk to the nearby newly opened Don Don Donki Japanese Supermart to grab some Japanese food for high tea. With 8 dining outlets located in this mart, I had no problem getting a feast of Aburi Salmon Sushi, Salmon Belly Yakitori, Unagi Don, Takoyaki for slightly extravagant afternoon tea.
Just nice to go with some hot tea with the in-room coffee and tea facility.
The next day, we had breakfast (complimentary breakfast as part of our stay package) at the White Rose Café located at the hotel lobby.
White Rose Café is also the same venue which hosts the seasonal Penang Buffet and is currently featuring the Treasured Flavours of Singapore which I will featuring in my next review.
The morning breakfast features a continental spread with your usual cold cuts, bread and croissants, ham, sausages and bacon, local spread such a fried rice and noodles, porridge and dimsum. There is also a made to order eggs and waffle station, great as I can order the way I like my eggs to be done!
For those who prefer a morning exercise, the gym is located right beside the pool. The hotel features a nice lap pool with day beds which is not very crowded during my stay. I did a swim at 9am in the morning and is appreciate of having able to have my swim in peace.
As with every staycation, it is time for me to pass my keycards to the counter and proceed to check out. The rooms are decent, comfortable with a very reasonable price range and a even better location. I loved the warmth and helpfulness of the service staff and although the hotel does feel a little jaded, the service definitely makes up for it.
Look forward to my upcoming review of the lunch buffet at White Rose Café!
