DoubleTree By Hilton Johor Bahru (1 Bedroom Deluxe Suite)
I have stayed at the DoubleTree By Hilton Johor Bahru numerous times since its opening, mainly due to its good location (within walking distance to CIQ and City Square), great Hilton Honors Points Redemption rate (10,000 points per stay) and nearly guaranteed suite upgrade for Hilton Honors Diamond Members.
This post mark my 3rd review of the property but I believe my 5th visit to the hotel just this year along.
Somewhere along the way, I signed up for their Hilton Premium Club Asia membership for RM748.00 which is approx SGD 250. It confers 1 complimentary night stay at any Hilton properties in Malaysia, and 50% dining discount for 2 pax, stay discounts, 1 for 1 alcoholic beverage vouchers at participating properties which would be a good buy if you dine often.
During my current stay, I was given a Deluxe Corner 1 Bedroom Suite with Straits View. It offers uninterrupted sweeping view of the Johor Straits, Danga Bay and North Western Singapore.
The spacious suite has a 2+1 sofa configuration in its living room, a reclining chair, LCD flat screen TV, a work station, a small cabinet with coffee machine, mini bar and bottle water. I like the idea of having a separate work station in the living room, in the event if you are working on something during the late night but your loved one is asleep, this would come helpful.
During this time round, I stayed on the serviced suites floor, which is mainly reserved for long staying guests as it comes with a functioning kitchen with fully functioning 2 tier fridge, microwave, full set of dining plates and cutlery,
Not sure whether is it because of my frequent stays at this property but I love the bed. It is extremely comfortable, not too soft nor too hard, just nice and right to my liking.
Definitely my bed of choice.
The ensuite bathroom has a fully functioning washing machine, accompanied with washing powder. It also has a iron with an ironing board so you may perform last minute pressing for a that event/dinner.
The only drawback of staying at this floor is the lack of a deep soaking tub in the bathroom, if you love getting a dip in the tub, please request for a normal suite on other floors.
During my stay, I've tried their afternoon tea set which comes with your preference of ice or hot tea/coffee.
The afternoon tea set comes in 3 tiers, the bottom sets the mandatory plain and raisin scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam. The middle tier comes with an array of assorted sandwiches such as cheese with jam, smoked salmon bagel and an apple pie.
The top tier is a chocolate swiss roll and local chocolate rice kueh.
It is decent, the sandwiches were a little cold, I would be disappointed if I chose to be picky, but it is passable.
At the property, they also serve international dinner buffet at their in-house restaurant, Makan Kitchen.
I was not particularly hungry on the evening when I had the buffet, their spread is very wide as usual, you have your usual cold cuts of gourmet hams, various types of salad, fresh seafood such as mussels, clams, prawns and crabs on Ice and freshly shucked oysters.
There are also Asian delights such as roast duck, chicken, double boiled soup, steamed fish, local favourites such as nasi lemak, freshly made naan and curries, made to order succulent satays and grilled fish.
Not forgetting their desserts with 8.30pm one-time serving of durian cakes, they also serve an assortment of cakes, ice creams, fruits, local kuehs and DIY Ice Kachang.
Definitely plenty to go around and not enough space to have it all.
After a hearty dinner, head to Tosca for a drink at the bar for a beautiful sunset view.
Hilton Gold and Diamond friends do remember to request for your late check out upon check-in. I was given a late check-out at 2.00pm as the property was fully booked during the weekend. All in all, given the very reasonable points redemption coupled with Executive Lounge access, an awesome view and great drinks with awesome food available at the property, you could well spend your entire weekend at the property without leaving!
