2016 - Year end review

Its been a great 2016 of blogging for JLTravelLounge. It has been 2 years since I started my travel blog, it has been tough at times to maintain my schedule to post at least once a week. I try to keep my travel blog among my friends, sharing my staycation and travel photos.

I don't really associate myself to the term "Travel Blogger" because my motivation to maintain JLTravelLounge was to document my travels with nice photos, for me read back and relive the memories of the years that passed me.

Many of my friends/peers do ask me stuff like, what are the perks of being a travel blogger?, do you always get free stays or discounted stays?

Frankly, out of the 32 hotel stays which I've written about this year, 3 was complimentary stay out of which 2 I am doing a hotel photo-shoot for them (as such the stay was complimentary), the other 1 was a goodwill stay given by the GM as gesture of thanks for the review I've written previously. Only 1 stay I received a special discount of 25% by the Marcomms.

Which means 88% of the stays were solely sponsored by myself and my own pocket.

I would say, its my photography aspect which is driving in the revenue to cover the costs of my travel. Perks wise, yeah, I do get the occasional dining treats and media invites, however these are few and far between as I don't have the reach as compared to other Travel Bloggers.

It is the passion of blogging and photography that keeps the spark burning. Here to the top 5 hotels which I've stayed this year.

InterContinental Shanghai Ruijin (Club InterContinental King)

The Iconic InterContinental Shanghai Ruijin has its own gardens and compound in the bustling town of Shanghai, it feels like I'm living in the Istana away from the hustle and bustle of the city life. I love the 19th century decor which feels totally chill and authentic.

One of the best suites I've stayed in this year, the expansive Terrace Suite at DoubleTree By Hilton Kuala Lumpur, with only 4 of such suites that offers panoramic views of the Kuala Lumpur Twin Tower and Genting Highlands.
