Conrad Centennial Singapore (Executive King Room)

In early 2021, I returned for a stay at the Conrad Centennial Singapore. My last review was the Centennial Suite a few years ago. COVID-19 has been very disruptive to many of our travel plans. This is my first blog post in 2021, looking forward to more posts to come! In December last year, I manage to book a good rate for Conrad Singapore at $228++ for a Deluxe Room.

Prior to my stay, I received a welcome email informing me of my assigned check in time, as they are practicing staggered check in for safe distancing. I was glad that my check-in time was 12noon, which is 3 hours earlier than the stated 3pm.

We arrived at the hotel at 12 noon, did the usual temperature taking and SafeEntry registration, Viola~, the front counter were not too busy and we are actually the next in queue. I was warmly greeted as a Hilton Diamond member and was given an upgrade to the Executive Twin Marina Bay View Room. The staff was polite, patient in explaining the safe distancing measures, we signed an undertaking acknowledging the guests registration/visitors limits and keys was issued to us promptly.

Some new changes are to the lounge operating hours. Sad news, gone were the days of walking into the lounge and chilling for as long as I like. We were need to book our 1 hour timeslot  for afternoon tea (3-5pm) and evening cocktails (6-8pm)

The Executive Twin Rooms are large, at a size of 40sqm, with some rooms being a little different, due to the uneven exterior of the building. Guests staying at the Executive Room enjoy Executive Lounge access which comes with afternoon tea, evening canapes & cocktails, evening access to the Executive lounge for beverages as well as premium WIFI.

Before entering the room, there is a sticker tagged on your front door stating that the room has been cleaned and no one has entered the room before you. Upon entering the room, a smile rose on my face as I saw the majestic Marina Bay view, yes I am a sucker for views.

The Executive Twin room has 2 x 48 inch bed (not sure how wide that is, but its definitely between a Super Single and Queen size). There is the signature Conrad Singapore Bear that is presented in every guest room and you are welcomed to bring it home.

In the room, there were also welcome amenities, home-made red velvet cookies (I did not like it as i prefer red velvet as a cake) and dried fruits (love the tomatoes), an orange & grapefruit beverage.  As we were celebrating my friend's birthday, there was also a birthday card which also functions as a redemption voucher for our complimentary cake at the lobby cakery.

Coffee Lovers would be happy to spot the Nespresso machine with 6 (if I'm not wrong) pods of coffee capsule for you to choose. The suaku me, took some time to realize that the capsule with the red dot means de-caffeinated.

By the bed, there is this nice little box, filled with hand sanitisers, masks and alcohol wipes which i felt was a very thoughtful gesture by the hotel.

Oh yes, not forgetting the luxurious ensuite marble bathroom with double vanity, deep soaking tub, a powerful shower with your choice of the normal or rainfall shower. I love the bath amenities by Shanghai Tang. It smells nice! Other amenities included a cute rubber duck by the tub, with a bodyscrub, bath salt, many many towels, a weighing scale and a magnifying makeup mirror.

After our lunch at Golden Peony, which I would publish in the coming days, we chilled at the room until 4pm where we made our way to the Executive Lounge at level 31 for our afternoon tea treats.

Fresh scones with cream and raspberry jam. Parma ham on baguette slices and cream cheese. Smoked Eggplant with dried tomatoes. Ricotta cheese with oat cracker (this oat cracker is amazing!)

The desserts were okay, there were cheese, brownies and a fruitcake. I did not really like the desserts but the savouries were not bad!

The evening canapes are served on a similar 3 tier setting as afternoon tea. There is the usual cold cuts and cheese followed by savouries that consist of chicken charsiew pie, beef rendang sliders and spicy chicken wings which was not bad. We had carrot cake and Carolines (nope, too sweet for me) for desserts.

In the evening, we took the opportunity to redeem our complimentary cake at the Conrad Patisserie located at level 1. I opt for the Royal Chocolate Hazelnut Crunch cake, it's the hotel's signature cake consisting of almond sponge, dark chocolate mouse on top of an amazing crunchy hazel praline base topped with some fresh albeit sour fruits.

Oh yes, do remember to book your breakfast timeslot early, especially if you are visiting over the weekends. The popular timeslots from 8am onwards tend to be booked fast. I was fortunate to manage to get a 9am slot.

Breakfast is no longer as enjoyable as before, it is now an ala-carte ordering style, where you get free flow cereals, fruits, bread but only a one-time main serving of your choice. Considering that it was a free-flow buffet in the past, this is an extremely watered-down version of breakfast. We wanted second orders and the service staff was kind enough to entertain us, but I heard of accounts where staff were quite strict on the one-time mains. Fingers crossed.

The breakfast was not bad, but serving was definitely not enough for me. The eggs benedict was half a muffin with a poached egg, hollandaise sauce, 2 cute medallion hashbrowns and a slice of grilled tomatoes. The quality is not bad for a main restaurant, my recent breakfast experience at Orchard Hotel is quite forgettable.

I was granted a late check out at 4.00pm which is amazing. Late check out differs, I got 2.00pm once and 3.00pm on another occasion (both weekdays checkout). Do check with the front desk staff at check in. All in all, it was another great stay experience at Conrad Singapore with an amazing price of $228++ per night.

A small piece of good news for HHonors Elite members & those who wish to attain HHonors elite membership, Hilton is having a 50% discount on nights/stays qualification for 2021. There is also a complimentary extension of the elite expiry date from 2021 to 2022. That means, I can maintain my Hilton Diamond status with 15 stays or 30 nights, as opposed to the previous 30 stays and 60 nights!
