La Mer Seafood Restaurant
As informed by our guide, La Mer Seafood Restaurant is a famous seafood restaurant offering great views of the Hua Hin Beach and visited by many famous local & foreign dignitaries when they visit Hua Hin. As such, we visited the restaurant which is a short 5 mins walk / 2 minutes drive from the hilltop.
As we arrived at the entrance, we spotted many monkeys families scouting our every movement as we entered the restaurant.
This being our first lunch in Hua Hin, we had many hopes for a good meal. We ordered the usual tomyum seafood soup, Kailan with beef, Pineapple rice, Steamed Fish, Oyster Omelette on Hotplate & Soft Shell Crab with coconut cream.
The dishes arrived in stages within 30 minutes, it looks as though it has been plated casually, the hotplate which the omelette resting on was full of grease and not sizzling hot.
The meal was disappointing, even Thai Express could do better then this restaurant, the vegetables were old, the soft shell crab in coconut cream was fishy and lukewarm, the fish was oily and not fully de-scaled. The tomyum soup was decent, could be better if it came piping hot. The pineapple rice was mushy, wet and bland.
I could not understand why was this restaurant so highly rated with dishes that fail to impress.
Only thing good was its location, stuck along the cliff overlooking the entire Hua Hin beach. It would boast an impressive view during sunset I reckon.
Would I return to this property? If only it was for the view, definitely not for the food, which came up to THB1500/SGD70. For those who wish to know more on this restaurant, you may visit the tripadvisor page here
